Haven’t had much to say this week because of a family tragedy, but thought I’d put something on about this – even though it’s old news now, the flag has been re-instated, and everything is all better. That is if you define “all better” as this bright red, blinking neon billboard that reads “Our Children are Being Educated by Certifiable Idiots.”
In case you haven’t been following this story, 13-year-old Cody Alicea displays the American flag on his bike because he is proud of his country and proud that his grandfather is a veteran. Unfortunately, the flag offended some students at his school, and Alicia was ordered to remove it. He complied, he said, because he “didn’t want to get into any more trouble.”
Well, I suppose it was Cody’s misfortune that he happens to attend such an orderly, well-behaved school district that the superintendent himself, Edward Parraz, has time to be scandalized by troublemakers like Cody (sarcasm intended).
That’s what causes me to question Parraz’ critical thinking skills. He doesn’t see any need to figure out why on earth any students would be offended by Old Glory, a banner that symbolizes the unprecedented smorgasbord of opportunity and freedom that those kids gorge themselves on daily. Nope. Like those dolts at Morgan Hill last spring, he believes that the party needing the attitude adjustment is Cody, a good kid who was made to feel like a trouble-maker because he recognizes the majesty and sacrifice the flag represents.
In case you haven’t seen it, here is Cody’s side of the story, below.
I’m glad Cody has been vindicated, but there is still a glaring problem here that hasn’t been addressed as far as I can tell. Will somebody please give Superintendent Parraz something to do? He obviously has way too much time on his hands. Maybe at the very least he could spend a little of that extra time reading up on the Bill of Rights.
